【Course Objectives】

Class Objectives

(1) Students will learn contexts in which classical sociology and sociology of religion were born.
(2) Students will acquire sociological perspectives (of religion).
(3) Students will understand modern society through a sociological viewpoint of religion.

Through these, students will practice basics of sociology.

【Course Contents】

I will ask students “What is sociology?” in the first class.

Sociology seems obvious for College of Sociology students. In this seminar, students will relearn thoroughly it and sociology of religion, which is the professor’s specialization.

This class is divided into 4 parts.

1) Students will learn and compare characteristics of sociology with other studies. (What does sociology research and how?)
2) Students will understand sociology and sociology-of-religion’s unique perspectives (=What are and are not observed?)
3) Students will learn to write a summary, as well as process and method to create presentation.
4) Students will make presentations on subjects they are interested in.

In particular, students will use skill 3) even after university graduation, so they should practice it thoroughly.
