【Course Objectives】

・Learn how to read classics that form the foundation of today’s academics, applying reading skills you’ve learnt through the years.
・Develop perspectives on the media and capitalism in order to keep psychological distance from contemporary world through reading the 20th century classics carefully.

【Course Contents】

We live in a world where we can easily make use of global services by using smartphones. That means, “we are living in a world of global capitalism with information media as a common surface”. But, what exactly is information media(social media) and how does it affect us? On the other hand, what kind of “ism(view)” does capitalism means actually? Are we doomed to live as we’ve come to believe as the only choice?
To find this answer, this course focuses on a classic argument on media and capitalism, "The Work of Art in the Age of its Technological Reproducibility" by Walter Benjamin.
