In this course, by focusing on the topic of lifestyles, students will develop the perspective and mindset for thinking about diversity in contemporary society, as well as broaden their visions and critical sense regarding lifestyle disparities as a consequence of diversification.
Life is an expansive term that includes everything from day-to-day living to a long lifetime. Lifestyle also encompasses many domains, including hobbies, diet, family relationships, and work. Each day we choose what lifestyle to practice and what not to. Behind this seemingly personal preference lies a social structure in which we may choose certain things and avoid certain things without even realizing it. By reading literature based on empirical evidence on these issues, students will gain diverse perspectives on lifestyles and deepen their sociological understanding of lifestyles. In addition, students will learn basic skills for conducting research, such as how to find and read literature and how to prepare resumes.

この演習では、ライフスタイルに着目することを通して、私たちが生きている現代社会の多様性について考えるための視点と方法を養うとともに、多様化の帰結としてのライフスタイル格差についての視野と問題意識を広げる。

ライフは、日々の暮らしから、長い人生という意味まで含まれる、膨らみのある言葉である。ライフスタイルもまた、趣味、食事、家族関係、仕事などといった様々なドメインを含んでいる。我々は日々、どのようなライフスタイルを実践するかを選択し、同時に「なにをしないか」を選択している。この一見して個人的な好みのような問題は、その背後に社会構造が潜んでいて、自分でも気づかないうちに特定のものを選択し、そして特定のものを避けているかもしれない。こうした問題に対して、実証エビデンスに基づく文献を読むことにより、ライフスタイルに対する多様な視点を得、ライフスタイルに対する社会学的理解を深める。併せて、文献の探し方、読み方、レジュメの作成方法など、研究をすすめるための基礎的なスキルも学ぶ。
