The purpose of this class is to understand the way to conduct empirical research, in relation to theories of Sociology. It is intended to undertake some fieldwork in ethnic communities in the metropolitan Tokyo, where transnational migrants' networks have developed.
In this semester, we will read the relevant literature on global migration and the formation of ethnic communities. In addition, we will systematize some statistical data on ethnic populations in Japan, migration trends, and so on.

社会学の基礎理論を基に，実証研究のあり方について理解を深めていくことを目的とする。大都市圏で形成されているエスニック・コミュニティやトランスナショナルな移住者などに関する調査を実施する予定である。
The purpose of this class is to understand the way to conduct empirical research, in relation to theories of Sociology. It is intended to undertake some fieldwork in ethnic communities in the metropolitan Tokyo, where transnational migrants' networks have developed.
主にグローバルな人の移動やエスニック・コミュニティの形成と関係した文献を読んで、それぞれのテーマの先行研究をまとめる。また，国内の外国人人口と関係した統計資料の解析など、基礎理論だけでなくデータの整理を行う。
