This class takes up topics on cities and communities. Those who take the class absorb academic knowledge on urban sociology and geography through reading books and materials related to these realms. Furthermore, students have to choose a theme, carry out field research, and make a report based on first-hand data they collect in the field. Each student is expected to develop comprehensive skills necessary to write a graduation thesis in the 4th year of university.

本演習は、履修者が都市／地域を自ら選び、そこにある具体的な場所を歴史的・社会的・地理的に書くことを目指すゼミである。ゼミ活動を通じ、履修者は都市社会学・地理学を中心に、都市研究に関わる学術的知識を身に付け、自ら適切なテーマや調査地を選択し、フィールドワークや調査研究を進める。また、その分析結果に基づいた報告書（ゼミ論文）を執筆する。以上を通じ、4年次の卒業論文執筆に向けた力を養う。

①準備的なフィールド調査の知見の報告、②①に基づいた問題関心の明確化と調査項目の策定、③実査、④適切な先行研究や枠組み探し、⑤フィールドで得たデータの整理・分析と立ち返り、⑥調査結果に基づいた報告書の執筆。
