In this course, students will aim to acquire intellectual foundation required to learn media sociology. Students will understand various sociological theories on wide range of media and communication phenomena in society. Students will be able to review media and society from multiple angles.
In this class, various theories mainly about media and mass communication are provided to explain their content, context, significance, and limit. In addition, students will learn about perspectives and methods that previous researchers used. Students will not only understand them, but also consider how they can be applied to the modern society.

本科目は、メディア社会学を学ぶための学問的基盤を築くことを目的とする。社会の中でのメデイアとコミュニケーションに関わるさまざまな現象に関する社会学的な諸理論を理解し、「メディアと社会」に関して多角的に考察する力を養う。

講義では、主にメディアとマスコミュニケーションに関する諸理論を取り上げ、その内容、背景、意義と限界などについて概説する。また、研究者たちがどのような視角や手法を用いたかについても説明する。履修者は、ただ単にそれらを理解するだけでなく、それを現代社会に応用して考えてほしい。
In this class, various theories mainly about media and mass communication are provided to explain their content, context, significance, and limit. In addition, students will learn about perspectives and methods that previous researchers used.
