We communicate information to others and receive information from others in various aspects of our daily lives. Appropriate transmission and reception of information enables us to make rational choices and actions and to enrich our social, cultural, and economic lives. To this end, it is important to understand the nature of information transmission and reception. By learning this in a practical way and improving skills in receiving and sending information, students will deepen their understanding of "Media and Communication for Humanity and Society," the position of this course on the curriculum map. We also want to cultivate the ability to think about the essence of things.
Methodologically, the focus is on writing and everyone's discussion based on the writing. However, there will be only three to four essays, so the burden is not so heavy. Discussions are not as heavy a burden as one might think, as it is difficult for students to actively speak up in class, so we will make extensive use of reaction papers. I would like to avoid an asymmetrical structure in which I give a one-way lecture, and I would like to think together with the students.
The theme of the essay should be a self-introduction or a current topic.
As I have been writing articles as a reporter for Kyodo News, I would like to share with you the means and methods used by the mass media to transmit information. I would also like to think together with you about how we, as recipients, should read and understand this information.

私たちは日常生活のさまざまな場面で、相手に情報を伝え、相手から情報を受け取っている。情報の発信と受信を適切に行うことによって、合理的な選択や行動が可能になり、社会的・文化的・経済的な生活も豊かになる。そのためには情報の発信と受信の本質を理解することが重要だ。このことを実践的に学び、情報の受発信のスキルを磨くことを通じて、カリキュラム・マップにおける本科目の位置づけ「人間・社会のメディアとコミュニケーション」への理解を深める。また、物事の本質を考える力も養いたい。

方法的には文章を書くことと、それを基にした全員のディスカッションが中心になる。といっても、作文は３～４本程度で、負担はそれほど重くない。討論といっても、クラスで積極的に発言することはむずかしいと思うので、リアクションペーパーを大いに活用したい。一方的に講義するという非対称な構造にはせず、私も共に考えるようにしたい。
作文のテーマは、自己紹介や時事的な話題などとする。
私は共同通信社の記者として記事を書き続けているので、マスメディアがどのような手段・方法で情報を発信しているのかも、みなさんに伝えたい。それを私たちが受け手としてどう読み解くべきかという点についても、みなさんといっしょに考えたい。
