【Course Objectives】

(1) In the first half of the course, students will gain the basic knowledge and approaches of media sociology.
(2) In the second half of the course, students will learn the theory and basic concepts of immigration studies; and understand the characteristics of contemporary immigrants.

【Course Contents】

With the projected decline in the size of the working-age population brought about by a low fertility rate and population aging, discussion about the acceptance of immigrants including foreign workers, and institutional reforms are underway in Japan. This course provides an introductory look into the topic of immigration, such as how nation-states developed and why people move across international borders.
