【Course Objectives】

The main theme of this seminar is "Media Communication." By "Media Communication," this seminar mainly focuses on Communication via the Internet, e.g., social media, or Online Communication rather than on traditional Mass Communication. In the first half of the 21st century, with the explosion of innovations in information and communications technologies such as the Internet, AI, and robotics, society has been and will be greatly changed. Mass media will continue to play a major role, but the role played by Internet communication, such as social media, will further expand. Therefore, this seminar stimulates students to acquire foundational knowledge about Internet studies and online communication studies. In addition, you are required to learn basic concepts, methodologies and theories to design your research strategies, to carry out research, to collect evidence and to write up your findings and analysis. During the course of learning, you are expected to learn to formulate and conduct research for graduation thesis.

【Course Contents】

In accordance with the goals of the class, students will be engaged in these seminar activities during the course of the academic year.
1. students will study the basic theories and methodologies related to media and communication studies, the Internet studies, and research strategies. Each student is also required to articulate research topics and questions, which will lead to graduation thesis.
2. you will learn advanced analytical methodologies of Internet social research.
3. In order to familiarize yourself with and cultivate the ability of group learning, tasks of group activities and discussions will be assigned.
4. students are engaged in planning of social survey research on media communication among college students. During the course of individual work and group work, you are required to survey literature, to search for relevant research and to collect data.
5. while making progress reports on individual research and group research, you must summarize the results to make a presentation and write an essay which will be the basis of graduation thesis in the next senior year.
