【Course Objectives】

Individuals' perceptions of society are constructed through daily exposure to news. News itself is a type of content; it is produced by senders and creators. In this seminar, we foster an interest in the senders and creators of journalism, exploring who produces the news we encounter daily and how they do so. Our objectives encompass the following two goals: 1) acquiring the ability to conduct discourse analysis focused on journalism and media, and 2) creating a research plan for a graduation study centered around journalism and media.

【Course Contents】

The purpose of this seminar is to further explore the material addressed in the first semester's 'Special Seminar 2A.' Specifically, its goal is to strengthen the groundwork for composing graduation theses that concentrate on the agents behind journalism and media. This includes: 1) examining the latest research trends concerning journalism senders in Japan and the United States, 2) analyzing the differentiation among newspaper journalists in Japan, and 3) exploring the potential of diverse sources for research on journalists and newsrooms.
