The aim of this course is to help students obtain an understanding of the fundamental principles of globalization. The skills that those students may acquire through actively participating in the inter-changing discussion using the knowledge which obtained in this course would help students to be more open and prepared in this rapidly changing global world.
By examining the state from the standpoint of civil society and globalization, a phenomenon that transcends the state, we will advance our understanding of the current situation and issues related to the foundations of democracy, such as what are the social conditions of civil society and how the state actually forms/reconstructs society.
Understanding Global Sociology as a revolutionary turning-point in the world’s social and economic history. This course introduces the foundations of sociology of system and globalization. Dealing with the basis of fundamental key concepts of globalization from sociological view point, with fundamental polarization reactions in communication and its mechanism, those who take this course will be challenged to enhance the skills in carrying out academic writing and discussions.
Each week, students are assigned to write a summary and synthesis of existing research related to the topic. In writing please make sure to look back over your previous class discussions.
Classes will focus on on-demand delivery from the first session. However, live program sessions are provided in week 5,12-13 during class hours. If you are unavailable for those class hours, watch the following movies to write final essay, rent or buy them at your own risks.
