【Course Objectives】

The goals of this class are as follows.
1) Understand theoretically the fundamental characteristics of consumer society and the problems it causes.
2) To understand and acquire knowledge of the history of consumer society.
3) Learn how to understand the present and future of consumer society through familiar materials, and refine techniques to communicate it to other students.

【Course Contents】

We live in a society where we are surrounded by glittering things such as gadgets, fashion, music, and subcultures, and we consume them. This consumer society has a strong power to define diverse forms of social life such as labor, education, and family. So how does this consumer society come into being, how does it operate today, and what will happen in the future? In this class, we will learn about the past and present of the consumer society from a sociological perspective, and use this as a clue to think about the future of our society.
