Why do conflicts occur? How do they intensify and end? What do they inflict on the local communities? How do the citizens bring back their daily lives? These are doubtless intricate questions which are difficult to find answers, but they are universal concerns to all humanity. The aim of this course is, through actual cases, to obtain basic knowledge of concepts and theories for analyzing these questions and to consider how we would get involved in them.
Understanding the ambiguity of the terms war and peace and surveying the modern history of conflicts/ wars, this course introduces the roles of actors involved in preventing and resolving conflicts, does comparative analysis of their backgrounds/causes, structures and realities (from 6th to 11th), reviews and evaluates peace processes and different attempts of reconciliation and peace building (12nd and 13th).

世界史の基礎的知識があること
授業支援システムにアクセスして、授業中に課される課題やリアクションペーパーを書いて提出するための機器（パソコン、タブレットなど）
初回授業で授業の進め方、基本的なルールについて説明するので、必ず出席すること。
紛争はなぜ起こるのか。紛争はどのようにして激化し終結するのか。紛争は地域社会に何をもたらすのか。紛争後の社会において、人々はいかにして日常生活を取り戻すか。これらの問いは、いずれも簡単に答えを出すことが出来ない、ややこしいものであることは間違いないが、全人類に関わる普遍性をもっている。講義では、具体的事例をとおして、これらの問いを考察するための基本的概念・理論について学び、私たち一人ひとりがこれらの問題にどのように関わっていくべきか考える。

戦争／平和の多義性を理解し、近代以降の紛争の歴史を概観した上で、紛争の予防と処理における諸アクターの役割について学ぶ。その後、現代における紛争の背景と原因、紛争の構図、紛争の実態を比較する（6～11回）。さらに、紛争終結のプロセスと和解・共生の様々な試みについて考察する（12～13回）。
