【Course Objectives】

Through carefully reading and discussion of classic literature in sociology, the course aims to have students acquire ideas, concepts, and research methods unique to sociology, as well as cultivate students' ability to comprehend the literature.

【Course Contents】

Reading is focused on Max Weber's The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism. The course will use Shakai kagaku no hoho (Methodology of the Social Science) by Hisao Otsuka at the outset. In the second half, it will select literature on the theme of "What is the modern age?" through consultation with students, and will conduct readings. Each class will be held in a format with the students reading in turn.
