To understand the recent trends of cultural anthropology.
Cultural anthropology started by studying, so to speak, the primitive society. However, the discipline has undergone a major transformation in recent years. The primitive society, though it is doubtful if it had existed once, has already disappeared. On the other hand, every corner of the world has become involved with globalization such as immigration phenomena or tourism. With the globalization phenomena, social issues such as human rights, minority issues, environmental issues, and epidemics, cannot be dealt with without considering national, social, and cultural differences. How does anthropology respond to and overcome these new social phenomena in our world? In this lecture, we will discuss trends in anthropology that confront and struggle to solve the new challenges.

To understand the recent trends of cultural anthropology.
「未開」の研究から始まった（文化）人類学は、近年大きな変容を迎えている。今日の世界には、「未開」と呼ばれるような社会は（かつて存在していたのだとすれば）すでに消滅し、移民現象や観光現象などのグローバル化にともなって、世界の隅々はいやがおうにもかかわりあうようになった。また、人権やマイノリティ問題、環境問題、疫病にともなう人間関係の変化など、私たちが対峙すべき社会問題も、国や社会、文化的な違いを考慮しなければ対応できなくなっている。私たちの世界に生じた新たな社会現象に人類学はどのように対応し、克服しようとしているのか。本講義では、新たな課題に対峙する人類学の動向を議論する。
