Even now in the 21st century, the world is still full of conflicts and wars. Needless to say, this comes directly from the state of the international community as the system of sovereign states, and there is no point in discussing the issue only from an ethical perspective. This class is to acquire the ability to interpret the international society that constantly produces such conflicts and wars from the ideas of the state, the nation that have been accumulated since the early modern era, and the reality of contemporary conflicts and wars.
In contrast to America's era of war, which spanned from the 1980s during the Cold War era to the post-Cold War era and the war in Iraq, 2003, Russia's era of war began immediately thereafter. Authoritarian states such as Russia and China actually have power, and countries in the so-called Global South do not necessarily adhere to the principles and ideals that have been created mainly by the West. This class examines the past and present surrounding the international community, conflicts, and wars from history, principles, ideas, and actual examples, and considers the future of the world.

21世紀の今もなお、世界は紛争・戦争に満ちている。いうまでもなく、これは主権国家システムとしての国際社会のありようからそのまま来るものであり、倫理的側面からのみ問題を語っても意味をなさない。本授業は、そうした紛争・戦争を絶えず生み出す国際社会について、近代初頭以来積み上げてきた国家のありようと考え方、同時代の紛争・戦争の現実から読み解く力を身につけることを目標とする。

冷戦時代の1980年代からポスト冷戦期、今世紀初頭のイラク戦争までのアメリカの戦争の時代に対して、ロシアの戦争の時代はその直後からはじまっていた。ロシアや中国のような権威主義的国家が現実に力を持ち、また、いわゆるグローバルサウスの国々も必ずしも欧米中心につくり上げてきた諸原則・理念に則るとは限らない。本授業は、こうした国際社会と紛争・戦争をめぐる過去・現在を、歴史・諸原則や理念および現実の事例から考察し、世界の行方を考える。
