The course positions social survey data analysis as a tool for considering society and resolving issues, and will instill basic concepts of probability theory and inferential statistics. Students will acquire methods to test inferences and hypotheses using data.
Drawing on the fundamental knowledge of statistics necessary for aggregating and analyzing statistical social survey data, students will learn about concepts including testing and estimation, as well as testing for differences in population mean, analysis of variance, testing for independence in cross-tabulation tables, and correlation and regression.

社会について考え、課題を解決する道具として社会調査データ分析を位置づけ、データを用いた推論や仮説検証の手法を習得する。統計調査データの集計・分析に必要な統計学の知識について学ぶが、社会科学の諸問題に応用する際の考え方を重視する。
The course positions social survey data analysis as a tool for considering society and resolving issues, and will instill basic concepts of probability theory and inferential statistics. Students will acquire methods to test inferences and hypotheses using data.
確率論に基づいた推測統計学の基本的な考え方を身につけ、基本統計量、推定や検定の考え方や手順、平均の差の検定、分散分析、相関係数と無相関検定、交絡変数の統制、回帰分析のモデル式や係数の推定・検定、クロス表の独立性の検定などについて学ぶ。
