【Course Objectives】

The primary goal of this course is to practice fundamental academic skills related to (a) outlining academic papers and (b) outlining academic presentations. Students will practice using Google Docs and Slides in-depth, including editing and design tools. The secondary goal of this course is to practice the citation conventions of the commonly-used APA standard, as well as practice reading and effectively summarizing written sources.

There will be short, 10-question quizzes each week reviewing the previous weeks' topics. There is a midterm examination consisting of in-class tasks conducted in Google Docs, as well as a multiple choice test (reviewing previous quiz questions). The final project consists of (a) an academic paper outline and (b) a related academic presentation outline. There is a final examination consisting of a multiple choice test (reviewing previous quiz questions).

【Course Contents】

The main focus of the class is on developing basic academic skills: developing research questions, citing sources, and summarizing information. We will practice these with three presentation types: explanation, compare/contrast, and persuasive.
