【Course Objectives】

To understand the basic Japanese communication skills required for the campus life and to gain the ability to actually utilize these skills for daily living. In particular students should aim to become able to, take notes while listening to lectures; summarize their thoughts relatively quickly on the Reaction Paper; read lecture summaries and other texts at the requisite level; give presentations that are easily understandable.

【Course Contents】

Practical exercises will be carried out to develop Japanese communication skills for academic campus life, such as the ability to take notes; fill in the Reaction Paper; read and write summaries; and read lecture materials. Japanese used in everyday life is very different from the Japanese in academic life. Therefore, this class carefully works on the fundamentals, such as the terminology and sentence patterns, and correct mistakes in each and every student’s Japanese, in order to improve their communication skills. Classes include a good balance of reading, writing, speaking, and listening activities. However, they are conducted with a particular focus on writing and presentation skills.
