【Course Objectives】

- Students become familiar with the social model of disability, which considers that "disabled people" are not disabled by their impairments but by barriers such as derogatory attitudes and the exclusive design of their society.
- Students reflect on what "information security" should entail by learning about various examples of Universal Design and "reasonable accommodation," becoming conscious of social "barriers" that they may not have recognized before.
- Students learn to perceive information security as a matter of interaction between the body and the environment by listening to people's stories and becoming familiar with alternative ways to access information.

【Course Contents】

The Japanese Government revised the Disability Discrimination Law, requiring companies and other operators to provide 'reasonable accommodation' starting from April 1st, 2024. In this context, it is significant to learn from measures and efforts that have been made to remove various barriers prior to the legal reform. In this course, we view 'disabilities' not as an issue of individuals' capacities but as social mechanisms unfriendly to disabled people. By learning and experiencing various aspects of information security, students become conscious of technologies and mechanisms in society that may have been previously taken for granted, considering information security as a matter of active interaction between the environment and the body.
