【Course Objectives】

Students will develop their overall English language skills while learning about multiculturalism in Australia.
Students will gain an understanding of the history and current state of multiculturalism in Australia
Students will be able to analyze the immigration policies and history of Australia and its impact on multiculturalism
Students will be able to understand and analyze the cultural diversity of Australian society
Students will be able to identify and analyze the challenges and opportunities of multiculturalism in Australia

【Course Contents】

This course, "Multiculturalism in Australia," will delve into the rich and complex history of multiculturalism in Australia, from its origins as a colonial society to its current state as a modern, diverse nation. We will explore the various waves of immigration that have shaped Australia's cultural landscape, including the gold rushes, the influx of agricultural workers, and the repeal of the White Australia policy. Through a variety of media including documentaries, books, drama, art, and lectures, students will gain a deeper understanding of the impact of immigration on Australia's language, food, media, and identity. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to examine the ongoing effects of multiculturalism in Australia and draw parallels to other cultures, fostering a deeper appreciation and understanding of the complexities and nuances of multiculturalism in today's globalized world.
