【Course Objectives】

This class will help you to:

- Critically analyze gender issues in relation to globalization in various Asian countries.
- Construct your own arguments, using data/evidence appropriately.
- Critically evaluate gender issues from multiple perspectives.

【Course Contents】

This course delves into the impact of globalization in Asia from a gender perspective. Despite women's educational attainment nearing parity with males in Asia, they remain concentrated in low-rank and low-paid jobs. Gender equality in employment and political participation in developed countries such as Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and Singapore still lags behind. Throughout this course, students will explore and discuss how globalization has influenced social, economic, political, and cultural changes in Asian countries, with a particular focus on its effects on the gender gap. Through readings, discussions, and research, students are expected to develop critical analysis and awareness of gender issues in Asia, preparing them for their roles as global citizens.
