This Course is designed for students enrolled in educational programs at the College of Sociology, Rikkyo University.
It is both a theoretical and data-driven course as well as interdisciplinary and problem-oriented for international students.
The primary goal of this Course is to introduce students to the richness of sociological insights of understanding the expansion of AI in the everyday life of society. The second goal of the Course is to facilitate students in preparation for a professional career or further studying in universities through the development of research skills and peer discussion skills.
The Course has three foci and is developed according to three basic ideas.
First, it is a must for social analytics, sociological sciences, and humanities students to study AI and the evolvement of AI instruments into the everyday life of a society.
Second, the sociological studies and social analytics of AI must utilize a human-centered AI perspective and comparative approach to enquire how instruments of AI should be developed in different societies and cultures.
Third, students can use the AI instruments such as ChatGPT and Bard while doing their classes on AI in society.
This innovative Course is designed for social sciences students seeking an in-depth exploration of the interplay between artificial intelligence and society. It emphasizes sociological and socio-cultural perspectives and delves into the intricate relationships between AI instruments, human lives, and the everyday life of society. Through interdisciplinary discussions, critical analyses, and thought-provoking debates, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of the social, ethical, and cultural dimensions of AI's impact on society. By examining AI through a comparative sociological lens, students will engage with topics such as human well-being, equity, social interactions, and the broader societal implications of AI deployment in global contexts.
