【Course Objectives】

We focus on writers who have to measure his / her raison d’ être among two or more language dimensions. Through their works, let us learn why and how emerge conflicts between linguistic expression and its legitimate creator, i.e., the author; why and how one’s efforts to give any linguistic expression to one’s life experience may affect his/ her identical integrity.

【Course Contents】

English vs. Spanish; Spanish vs. indigenous languages or mother tongue; English vs. indigenous languages or mother tongue: Inside the Americas, once called the New World, there persist terrible and complicated linguistic power relations. Under an essential historical / geographical contextualizing, we analyze several keen examples of linguistic expression grown up over the continents.
