This class aims to develop your understanding of the basic concepts of civil procedure in Japan.
Let's suppose you lend money to someone and the borrower refuses to pay the money back. In this situation, what can you do to get the money back? You will think of filing a lawsuit with the court against the borrower. This is called civil litigation, which is the main topic of this class.
In this class, students will learn basic concepts and rules of civil litigation in Japan. Lectures will be interactive. During the course, students may be requested to do research and presentation (in group) on some major topics of the civil procudre, comparing the situations in Japan and in other countries.
This class will be couducted in English.

本授業は、日本の民事訴訟に関する基本的な考え方を習得することを目的とします。
This class aims to develop your understanding of the basic concepts of civil procedure in Japan.
たとえば、皆さんが誰かにお金を貸し、借主がお金を返すのを拒否した場合、お金を返してもらうにはどうしたらいいでしょうか。借主に対して裁判所に訴訟を起こすことも選択肢となるでしょう。これが民事訴訟と呼ばれるもので、この授業のメインテーマです。
この授業では、日本の民事訴訟の基本的な考え方やルールを学びます。講義は双方向で行います。また、授業の後半では、受講者の皆さんに、民事訴訟に関する主要なトピックについて、日本と諸外国の状況を比較しながら調査し、グループ・プレゼンテーションをしていただきます。
この授業は、英語により行われます。グローバル・コース以外の学生の受講も歓迎します。授業は平易な説明を心掛けますので、英語力は問いません。
