【Course Objectives】

The objective of this course is to facilitate an understanding of the theoretical foundations and behavioral principles of political actors in order to comprehend the political processes.

【Course Contents】

This course offers an in-depth exploration of the dynamics within contemporary Japanese politics, focusing on the complex interplay among various political actors. In a world where societies are characterized by a multitude of viewpoints and preferences, the ability to navigate and amalgamate these diverse perspectives is crucial in the realm of decision-making. Students will gain insights into the mechanisms that underpin the interactions and behaviors of political entities in Japan.
Each session will commence with critical questions designed to stimulate analytical thinking and discussion. Examples of such questions include: "What factors contribute to the declining voter turnout in established democracies?", "What motivates legislators to change political affiliations?", and "What causes the fragmentation of political parties?". Through engaging with these questions, students will apply theoretical knowledge to understand and interpret the behavioral patterns of political actors.
Please note that the topics related to the political institutions and their influence on the dynamics of political actor interactions will be addressed in the "Political Process 2", scheduled for the autumn semester.
