【Course Objectives】

This course aims to understand the public regulations of sovereign states on the cross-border activities of trade and investment and the mechanism of WTO and other international rules on them.

【Course Contents】

Sovereign states enforce various regulations as a means of achieving a variety of domestic policy objectives, which can have a significant impact on cross-border economic activity. With the progress of economic globalization, these regulations have been forced to be amended in various ways. One of the most important examples is the efforts of the international community to liberalize trade since World War II, and its central existence is the framework of the GATT / WTO Law. In particular, with the establishment of the WTO (World Trade Organization), the scope of discipline has been expanded from trade in goods to trade in services and protection of intellectual property, and the formation of international discipline regarding investment regulation and competition policy is also being considered. Then, what is the legitimacy and what and how effectively does such international discipline control the public regulations of sovereign states?
In this course, it is explained that the basic legal concepts and theories necessary for studying international economic law and the overall structure and main discipline of the WTO law.
