This seminar aims to acquire the ability to identify the issue about laws to be solved and imagine the scientific approach which could provide helpful findings while considering that issue.
In this seminar, students are required to read articles about empirical legal studies. Simultaneously, students are also required to identify the issue to be solved and design a rough research plan that could contribute to the discussion.
Except for the sessions on guidance and introduction, the focus of the class will be on students’ presentations and Q&A and discussion among students. Therefore, students attending this seminar are expected to prepare themselves by reading literature, etc. in advance and to actively participate in discussions. Please refer to the "Learning Outside of Class Hours" section for the required preparation.
The number of sessions for literature readings and interim/final reports may be adjusted according to the number of students enrolled.

法的な問題を特定し，その問題を考えるために必要な社会調査を構想する能力を涵養することを目標とする。
This seminar aims to acquire the ability to identify the issue about laws to be solved and imagine the scientific approach which could provide helpful findings while considering that issue.
法社会学に関連する実証研究の具体例に触れるため，関連する論文を読み進めるとともに，自分の関心のあるテーマについて問題を特定し，調査の方法について構想を練っていく。
ガイダンス・イントロダクションを除く文献講読とディスカッション，中間および最終報告では、学生の報告および学生同士の質疑応答・議論が授業の中心となる。したがって、本演習を受講する学生には、事前に文献等を読んで準備をし、積極的に議論に参加することが求められる。なお、文献講読および中間および最終報告で要求される学習内容については、「授業時間外の学習」の欄を参照。
なお，文献講読や中間／最終報告の回数は，履修学生の人数に応じて調整をすることがある。

| 履修者の人数によっては個人発表ではなくグループ発表を採用する場合もある。 |
文献講読は、各回の報告担当者を決めて，担当学生に報告をしてもらう。担当となった学生には，論文の内容をまとめ，疑問点や論点を整理したレジュメを準備してもらう。そのため、報告担当の学生は指定された文献だけでなく、その疑問点や論点を整理・提示するために、関連する文献を集めて、それらを読み進めることも要求される。また，報告担当となっていない学生も、当日の議論に参加するために、少なくとも対象文献を読み込んでくることが要求される。
また，本演習では，各自がテーマを定めて大まかな調査方法について提案をまとめてもらう。したがって，演習で扱う論文を参考にしつつも，自分の関心に即した研究論文や調査方法に関する参考書を読み進めていくことが求められる（どのような文献を読むべきかについては，各自の関心に即して適宜助言する）。その内容について，春学期の終わりに中間的な報告をしてもらい，さらに秋学期の終わりに最終報告をしてもらう。
