The goal of the seminar is to gain a correct understanding of the current situation in China and, based on this understanding, for students to think deeply about what kind of foreign policy Japan should adopt in the future.
While China has achieved remarkable economic growth, severe tensions have emerged between China and the West, led by the US, in what has been termed the 'New Cold War'. And while China is an extremely important economic partner for Japan, Japanese sentiment towards China has remained very poor over the past 20 years or so. It is extremely important for those living in Japan to have a proper understanding of the current situation in neighbouring China.
In this seminar, we will look into the future of diplomacy and politics in Japan and East Asia through a broad consideration and in-depth understanding of the current situation in China based on reliable information.
After sharing an understanding of the various issues surrounding the current situation in China with the members, students are divided into groups to conduct case studies. Those who wish to do so will be asked to write a seminar paper, the contents of which will also be discussed in the seminar.

このゼミの目標は、中国の現状についての正しい理解を得ることにより、日本が今後どのような外交政策をとるべきかを深く考えることである。
The goal of the seminar is to gain a correct understanding of the current situation in China and, based on this understanding, for students to think deeply about what kind of foreign policy Japan should adopt in the future.
中国は著しい経済成長を実現する一方で、米国を中心とした西側諸国との間では「新冷戦」とも称される、厳しい緊張状態が出現しています。また、中国は日本にとって極めて重要な経済パートナーである一方、日本人の対中感情は、過去20年余りにわたり非常に悪い状態が続いています。日本に住む者が、隣国である中国の現状を正しく理解することは、極めて重要です。
この演習では、信頼できる情報に基づいて中国の現状を幅広く考察し、深く理解することで、日本や東アジアの外交・政治の将来を展望します。
ゼミ全体で中国の現状をめぐる諸問題についての理解を共有した上で、グループに分かれて事例研究を行います。希望者には演習論文を執筆してもらい，その内容についてもゼミで議論して行きます。
なお、本ゼミでは時間を延長して開講する場合がありますので、可能な限り、6限の時間も他の授業や私用を入れないこと、グループ研究を重視するため、受講者相互間の連絡や協力などに，課外の時間にも積極的に対応すること、また、合宿や他大学との合同ゼミり実施も予定していますので、これらの正規の開講時間以外の各種行事にも、労を惜しまず積極的に参加することを求めます。
頻繁に報告を行うことを求められますので、準備に相当な時間と労力を割く必要があることも理解した上で、参加して下さい。
