【Course Objectives】

In this seminar the students will follow the historical development of the world order in international politics, acquire skills for analyzing current international politics, and even widen their perspective on the future in which we will live.

【Course Contents】

Is the 21st century we live in a new post-Cold War world? Or is it built on the remnants of the old empires? The main theme of this seminar is how to understand contemporary international issues occurring around the world, such as the instability of the United States, the rise of China, and the war between Russia and Ukraine. To examine these matters, the students first strengthen the foundation of knowledge and framework by reading technical books and discussing actively. In the latter two-thirds of the seminar, the students will themselves choose an issue for research and give a presentation with their own views. In this way the students will acquire a multidirectional understanding of contemporary international politics by active discussions in our seminar.
Students will be assigned chapters in the textbook and issues to present reports. After the report has been presented, the faculty member will add an explanation followed by a discussion among all the students based on the "preparatory notes" submitted by the students.
Note: The schedule can be changed depending on the scale of the class.
