【Course Objectives】

The purpose of this course is to deepen the understanding of the institutional challenges that the Japanese government faces, such as the process of policy formation in the central government of Japan, the relationship between politics and administration, the relationship between the Prime Minister’s Office and each ministry, and to imagine the actual events taking place within the government while understanding the reality.

In addition, an overview of local administration will be provided, focusing on its relationship with the country.

【Course Contents】

The purpose of this course is to deepen the understanding of the institutional challenges faced by the Japanese government, the background of political events that are often reported in the media, and the actual events that are taking place within the government, while imagining the reality of the policy-making process of the central government of Japan, the relationship between politics and administration, and the relationship between the Cabinet Secretariat and each ministry and agency, based on the reality.
This year, we will take an approach to deepen our understanding of the experiences of bureaucrats who played a key role in supporting the Cabinet Secretariat in the Second Abe Cabinet through their books.

In addition, we will provide an overview of local government, focusing on its relationship with the national government.

You need to prepare a textbook, read the chapter assigned to you in advance, and deepen your understanding of the relevant facts and other literature or websites before presenting them. Even for students other than the person in charge, it is necessary to read the relevant chapter of the textbook in advance and attend the class.
