This seminar aims to develop an understanding of collaborative processes to help multi-stakeholder groups create solutions to complex problems.
Mediation is a private and consensual process in which an impartial person, a mediator, works with disputing parties to help them explore settlement, reconciliation, and understanding among them. This class is designed to enhance your facilitation skills and learn practical approaches to mediation. Throughout the semester, you will explore the strategies and theories of mediation to produce creative and mutually beneficial results on complex issues.

中立的な第三者を介した紛争解決手続きであるメディエーションの理論とその実践方法を学びます
This seminar aims to develop an understanding of collaborative processes to help multi-stakeholder groups create solutions to complex problems.
当事者間の直接的なやりとり(交渉)で問題解決ができない場合に、中立的な第三者の支援を得て紛争解決を行うことがあり、その手続きの一つがメディエーションです。この授業では、メディエーションの基礎理論を学ぶとともに、ロールプレイによる実践を通して、そのスキルを修得することを目指します。双方向・参加型の授業ですので、出席及び授業への積極的な参加を期待します。授業開始直後にロールプレイをすることがあり、遅刻するとその日の授業に参加できないことがあります。そのため、遅刻2回で欠席1回とカウントし、3回を超える欠席があった場合、原則として不合格となります(正当な理由のない遅刻や欠席)。

This is an interactive seminar that will require weekly readings and preparation. Because the role-plays are the main activity, participation in the class discussion is valued; attendance, class participation, and written assignments are the core evaluation components.
As this is an advanced “Negotiation Basics” class, students interested in taking this seminar are recommended to take it in advance (Recommended, but not mandatory).
