【Course Objectives】

Examine modern Japanese history from the perspective of women's history and gender, and deepen your multifaceted understanding of modern society.

【Course Contents】

In the society we live in today, there is a growing trend towards people seeking diverse lifestyles that are unique to each person, without being bound by the distinctions of men and women. However, in society not so long ago, whether people liked it or not, people were categorized as male or female, and their way of life was largely determined and restricted depending on which category they were categorized into. Moreover, there was a clear hierarchical relationship between men and women, and this was deeply connected to the state of the family, workplace, school, and even the nation, so it was extremely difficult to break through this division.
In this lecture, we will discuss how people throughout history have been directed and restricted in their lives by the classification of men and women, and how they have recognized that they have been divided into women and men. Lectures will be given based on Japan's modern history about what kind of movements have been developed in order to break away from ``femininity'' and ``masculinity'' and live as oneself.
