【Course Objectives】

In this course, the aim is for students to acquire the following perspectives necessary to coexist with others in 21st century society where globalization is advancing.
1. Revised perspective of the own-culture-centered attitude
2. A cultural relativistic perspective that seeks to understand different cultures, recognizing that every culture has its own semantic system
3. A perspective that respects one's own traditional culture (including embodied knowledge and traditional techniques) based on cultural relativism

【Course Contents】

We naturally acquire the cultural values of the society we have grown up with and grasp different cultures through it. In this lecture, we will aim to start from becoming aware of such own-culture-centered thinking hidden in people, look at diverse cultures, and finally make relative and re-evaluate the fact that "common sense = normal behavior" in our own culture. In modern society where globalization is advancing and the need for "understanding different cultures" has been advocated, we would like students to learn cultural anthropology, which is the study of "knowing different cultures and making one's own culture relative."
