Upon completion of the course, students will have a basic ability to analyze the issues of politics, military and security in Taiwan, China and Japan, and Japan-China-US-Taiwan relations by utilizing their improved knowledge of a variety of issues in East Asia gained from the course.
This course provides detailed lectures on the issues of Taiwan, China and Japan that poses strong power in politics, economy and security in East Asia. The course is designed to spend more time on Taiwan-related issues and take a several types of activities, including discussion, case study and role-playing, to understand the issues from various aspects. Each class includes: 1) Reaction and questions from previous class (10 mins), 2) Lecture (50 mins), 3) Activity (30 mins), and 4) Writing reaction paper (10 mins).

東アジアに存在する諸問題に関する理解を深め、受講者が授業で得られた知見を利用して、台湾・中国・日本の政治、軍事、安全保障、日中米台関係の分析を的確に行うことができるような基礎を形成することを到達目標としている。

東アジアにおいて政治・経済・安全保障の面で大きな力を有する台湾・中国・日本を取り巻く諸問題を取り上げて解説し、討論を行う。台湾関連の論述に時間を割いた内容となっており、通常の「中国論」とは異なるアプローチをとる。時間配分は、①前回のコメントペーパーの紹介と質問への回答10分、②当日の主題解説50分、③討論30分、④コメントペーパーの記述10分、を目安とする。
