【Course Objectives】

The objectives of this course are to learn the basics of "economic thinking" and to acquire a minimum level of economic knowledge. Students will learn exactly how the "market" works, which is the focus of economics, and learn about so-called "market failures" in which the market does not work well.

【Course Contents】

The basics of "economic thinking" will be explained with application examples to familiar economic problems. Students will learn the function of the "market," which economics emphasizes, and in what sense it is desirable. In addition, students will learn what kinds of situations exist in which the functioning of such "markets" does not work well (so-called "market failures") and how they should be resolved.
