As citizens of a globalized society, it is crucial to have more than superficial judgments about the political and social changes brought about by globalization. To this end, this course aims to develop an in-depth understanding and analytical skills on different issues such as democracy, bureaucracy, gender, populism, the welfare state and the rise of emerging countries through explanations of the latest core literature in political science.
Since globalization went in full swing, many new phenomena, such as economic and financial integration and the global financial crisis, the US and Western-centric order and reactions against it, the multiculturalism and terrorism, global warming and pandemics, have shaken the world as well as Japan. The question is: can politics adapt to changes and protect and improve democracy, peace, environment and equality? This lecture will explain the latest reliable core political science literature for each topic, so that each student can learn about a wide range of changing political structures and consider them deeply.

グローバル社会の市民として，グローバル化がもたらす政治や社会の変化について皮相的でない判断力をもつことが必要である。そのために本授業では，政治学の最新の基本的文献の解説を通し，デモクラシー，官僚制，ジェンダー，ポピュリズム，福祉国家，新興国の台頭など多面的な問題について深い理解と分析力を養うことを目標とする。
As citizens of a globalized society, it is crucial to have more than superficial judgments about the political and social changes brought about by globalization. グローバル化がいわれてすでに30年以上が経ち，その間に経済・金融の一体化と世界金融危機，アメリカ・西欧中心の秩序と反動，多文化共生とテロリズム，地球温暖化と感染症など，「新しい現象」が世界と日本を揺るがしている。しかし政治は一夜にして変わるわけではない。政治は変化を迫られつつ，デモクラシーや平和，環境，平等などを守り改善するために適応できるのだろうか。本講義は各自が幅広く変化する政治の構造を知り熟考できるよう，最新の信頼できる政治学の基本的文献をテーマ毎に選んで解説する。
