Through the activities and works of adventurers in 20th century music who dared to do things that no one had done before, students will develop the ability to consider the interrelationship between individual creativity and the society to which that individual belongs.
In this class, students will appreciate 20th century musical works based on ideas that were distinct from classical music up to the 19th century. The inevitability of such works will then be examined in conjunction with the history of music as well as the political and social conditions of the same period.

20世紀音楽において、それまで誰もやらなかったことにあえて取り組んだ音楽家たち＝冒険者たちの活動や作品を通じて、個人の創造性と、その個人が属する社会との相互関係について考察する力を育む。
Through the activities and works of adventurers in 20th century music who dared to do things that no one had done before, students will develop the ability to consider the interrelationship between individual creativity and the society to which that individual belongs.
この授業では、19世紀までのクラシック音楽とは一線を画したアイディアに基づく、20世紀の音楽作品を鑑賞する。そして、そのような作品が生まれた必然性を、音楽の歴史のほか、同時代の政治や社会状況とあわせて検討する。
