【Course Objectives】

While appreciating operas using video materials, students will learn about the composers and the works and examine the historical background, the subject matter, and the way of performing and directing, etc. from various viewpoints.

【Course Contents】

Seminar format. After guidance in the first few classes, all students will take charge of the presentations. As a general rule, we will take up one opera in each class. The person in charge of each session shall research and analyze the necessary items in advance, make a summary and oral presentation as a guide for appreciating the opera, and guide the discussion after seeing the opera. Depending on the number of students, it will be a group presentation. We aim to touch upon various works, centered on the leading works of each country and era. We would like to give priority if there are proactive requests or suggestions from students.
