【Course Objectives】

The course focuses on novels written in Korea from the 20th century onwards, and how modern and contemporary Korean literature developed. Through this study, students will be able to gain a deeper understanding of the language, culture and history of Korea, which has had extremely close relationships with Japan.

【Course Contents】

The course will be conducted in lecture form (or we may try a seminar-like format depending on the number of students).
In the course, the lecturer will present some excerpts from the novels and stories and their interpretations, as well as explanations of the historical background of the work’s subjects. In particular, we will explore the question of how literary texts are connected to the circumstances of their times, and are established as expressions specific to those times, while also taking into account perspectives of social and cultural history.
