【Course Objectives】

In 2023 and early 2024, global monthly average temperatures reached record highs for many months. We will learn how extraordinary these recent climate changes are in the Earth's long history, how serious the associated environmental changes are, how long we have been aware of them, and what the future global trends will be. Ultimately, the goal is for students to be able to confront the issue of climate change as their own problem, and to be able to think about what they should choose from the large amount of information and options that exist.

【Course Contents】

As an introduction to the class, we will review the space and time in which the Earth exists today, and learn how recent changes in climate and environment are characterized by the past as well.
In the middle part of the course, the class will cover about the changes in various parts of the world due to global warming, especially in relation to glaciology, based on explanations and videos by experts.
In the final part of the course, students will learn about the history of our understanding of global warming and examples of countermeasures for the present and future.
