【Course Objectives】

It is inevitable to face to problems of natural resource extraction if we think about conservation of nature environment. Offering topics on both crisis of bio-diversity loss and indigenous people’s rights violation that cause threats to nature, this lecture will provide an opportunity to debate what we Japanese should do as a country that has almost no raw materials.

【Course Contents】

Along with significant evolution of civilization and scientific technology and with large extension of global societies, excessive natural resources extractions are continuously conducted to satisfy enormous demand of raw materials and goods in the world. This causes critical threats to natural environment and bio-diversity on the planet. In this lecture, while learning original functions and roles of natural environment and biodiversity from African tropical forest ecosystem where we human-being came from, field topics will be provided both about crisis of nature from natural resources extraction and about serious violation of rights of indigenous people who though have actually been contributing to sustainable management of nature through thousands of years. Particularly, since we Japanese have a strong responsibility to these issues as a country almost totally depends on importation of raw natural resources, this lecture will provide an opportunity to debate what we Japanese should do.
