【Course Objectives】

The goal of this course is to acquire the ability to think about ways to design communities that are comfortable for everyone to live in. Specifically, students will deepen their understanding of the perspective of "normalization theory," eugenic thought, and the independent living movement for people with disabilities as a methodology for thinking about community issues.

【Course Contents】

This class begins with an examination of the question of what constitutes a community that realizes an ``inclusive society.'' Next, I will explain the history of the development of the ``normalization philosophy.'' Furthermore, this class will discuss the systematization of the normalization philosophy. At the same time, we will consider what approaches can be taken to resolve conflicts that arise between community care practices and institutional care. Finally, the lecture will discuss the issues of exclusion and discrimination caused by eugenic ideology in the community, and the movement for people with disabilities that has been the driving force for realizing an inclusive society.
