The goals of this course are to be able to understand the development and regional and historical characteristics of Christianity that has been accepted in Japan while considering its history in the context of the world and Asian history.
This course will explore the expansion of Christianity in Japan, considering the global historical background leading to its propagation in Japan. Students will learn about Christianity’s acceptance and development during the early modern, modern, and contemporary periods. Furthermore, through an examination of the history of Christianity in Japan from its introduction to the present day, students will learn the regional and temporal characteristics of Christianity in Japan.

日本におけるキリスト教の歴史を世界史・アジア史のなかで捉え、日本で受容されたキリスト教の展開とその地域的・時代的特徴を理解する。
The goals of this course are to be able to understand the development and regional and historical characteristics of Christianity that has been accepted in Japan while considering its history in the context of the world and Asian history.
日本布教に至る世界史的背景を踏まえたうえで、日本におけるキリスト教の展開を学びます。キリスト教の受容と、近世・近代・現代それぞれの時代状況における展開に注目し、キリスト教の伝来から今日に至るそれらの歴史を通して、日本におけるキリスト教の地域的・時代的特徴を考察します。
This course will explore the expansion of Christianity in Japan, considering the global historical background leading to its propagation in Japan. Students will learn about Christianity’s acceptance and development during the early modern, modern, and contemporary periods.
