【Course Objectives】

The objective is to be able to think about the state of the arts from multiple perspectives through the problems associated with the formation and performance of various operas. At the same time, the course aims to improve students' ability to think independently and to express this in writing.

【Course Contents】

This course takes up famous operatic works produced in Europe during the 18th to 20th centuries, focusing on their relationship to the historical background, the librettos and its source materials, changes in compositional techniques and the interpretations of the directors, in order to decipher the various aspects unique to opera as a comprehensive art form.
