The aim of this course it to gain basic knowledge of Japanese politics with a comparative perspective and find key policy issues that Japan face.
This course investigates Japanese politics with a comparative perspective. The course offers an in-depth exploration of institutions and the policymaking process. The goal of this course is for students to deepen their understanding of Japanese politics and widen their perspectives, thus allowing them to become an informed citizen of a democratic society.

この授業の目標は、日本政治に関する基礎的な知識を習得し、国際比較の視点から政策課題を見つけ、社会的な解決策を模索することにある。
The aim of this course it to gain basic knowledge of Japanese politics with a comparative perspective and find key policy issues that Japan face.
この授業では、現代日本が直面する政治的な課題を国際比較の視点を用いながら検討する。政治とはどのような営みなのか、なぜ社会問題をめぐり人々の意見は対立するのか、私たちの声はどのような仕組みを通じて政策形成の現場に届けることができるのか。先進民主主義国が直面する課題とその解決に向けた取り組みを学び、社会的な解決策を自ら考える。
本授業を通じて受講生は、日本政治に関する知識を深め、有権者としての視野を広げ、民主主義社会の主体的な市民となることを目指す。
This course investigates Japanese politics with a comparative perspective. The course offers an in-depth exploration of institutions and the policymaking process. The goal of this course is for students to deepen their understanding of Japanese politics and widen their perspectives, thus allowing them to become an informed citizen of a democratic society.

| Assigned readings and audiovisual materials will be in English, lectures will be conducted in Japanese. All students are required to make a presentation (individual or group, depending on the class size) at least once during the semester. The presentation should be conducted in English, those who want to present in Japanese should consult the instructor in advance. 英語のテキストや視聴覚教材を用いるが、講義は日本語で行う。 受講人数によって、個人あるいはグループによる発表を学期中に全員1回は行う。発表で使用する言語は英語を推奨する。日本語で行う場合には、事前に教員に相談すること。 |
All the students are expected to come to class having read all the assigned readings and ready to actively participate in discussions. In order to stimulate discussions and deepen one's understanding of the material, students may be required to conduct supplementary research. Students are encouraged to follow daily news and keep up with current affairs.
事前に課題文献に目を通し、授業内でのディスカッションやグループワーク等に積極的に参加できるよう準備をしてくることが期待される。個人・グループ発表に向けて、授業時間外に自主的な学びが必要となることがある。
授業では時事的な話題に言及するので、日常的にニュースや新聞に目を通す習慣をつけることを推奨する。
