【Course Objectives】

Through examining various Christian symbols found in literature, this course aims to enable students to obtain a deeper comprehension of these works whilst helping them view Christianity from a different angle.

【Course Contents】

Children’s fantasy literature has received a strong influence from Christian culture. One can often notice Christian themes present within various stories in the genre. In this course, students will extensively grasp the relationship between literature and religion through the examination of fairy tales and children’s literature that remain familiar to many in the present day. Students will be able to understand the aspects of Christianity relevant to the cultural backgrounds of each work as well as the themes presented within. They will also be able to read and comprehend variations of these aspects that often appear as motifs, such as the birth of the witch, death, and rebirth.
