【Course Objectives】

In this course, we will learn about basic methods of art history and other art studies. We will also learn the history of art history, from its birth up to new questions that it faces today.

【Course Contents】

This course will focus on Western art, covering long-used research methods such as style theory and iconography. We will proceed to cover research based on newer perspectives, such as the relationship between art and society or between images and language, the study of psychoanalysis, gender research, and post-colonialism studies. We will introduce important researchers necessary for those who wish to study art at the university level. The course will be grounded in explanations of the methodologies employed and analysis of the works studied; to that end, individual studies will be presented.
