【Course Objectives】

At the end of this course, students will be able to practice the sociological imagination to examine personal experiences and events they may have taken for granted.

【Course Contents】

Sociology seeks solutions by taking up issues in our daily lives and analyzing their backgrounds and mechanisms beyond the appearances of certain issues. In this course, we will use sociological imagination, one of the sociological ways of thinking, to examine events and issues occurring in various areas of society.

The sociological imagination is the ability to connect personal experiences and events that we take for granted to larger social structures and historical contexts. One of the advantages of this imagination is that what appeared to be a highly personal issue can be recognized as a socially and historically produced problem. This is an essential way of viewing things to get to the root cause of a problem and find solutions.
