【Course Objectives】

In this course, students will learn that collegiate studies are meant to set the basis to help them understand the reality of society, as well as to help them find issues within it. In order to help them solve these issues, students will immerse themselves in various issues related to society, acquiring new viewpoints and the proper attitude along the way.

【Course Contents】

This subject is one of Rikkyo Service Learning (RSL) subjects. RSL aims for students to understand the community; through acquiring the skills to deal with the community, students come to understand what it means to be a citizen in the community. With that in mind, during the first half of this course, students will learn the history of Rikkyo University, the community that will be their home for the four years. In addition, students will learn about the university’s required curriculum as well as extracurriculars offered by the university. The lecture will also discuss tips regarding how to grow as a person. In the latter half of the course, we will use a Christian (Holy Catholic Church) approach (outlook) based in Rikkyo University’s educational and spiritual foundation to ethically look at various real issues in modern society. There will be many opportunities for discussion. While hearing the opinions of those around them, students will endeavor to put their own feelings into thoughts and words. The general content for this course is aimed at searching for what it means to live amongst others as an individual member of society.
